Geeks, nerds, and technology fans at Southeast were given a new voice this week with the premiere of "Nerd Word", RAGE 103.7's new talk show focusing on gaming, technology and pop culture.

The hour-long show, which airs on Friday at 2p.m. is getting attention from listeners and RAGE staff alike for its fresh new blend of the latest geeky news, humorous commentary, and alt-rock music.

Hosts Josh Thompson, Joe Groeller, and Trevor "Babylon Kingston" Morgan each serve as experts on specific subsections of "geek-dom," dispensing wit and commentary on each of their fields with boundless enthusiasm. In fact, the trio's enthusiasm seems to be spreading all through the RAGE offices.

"Nerd Word is an addiction around here," said Rachel Burnett, the Station Manager for RAGE 103.7. Fan reaction has been equally enthusiastic, with the "Nerd Word" Twitter and Facebook pages having already received multiple hits both before and after the show aired.

Not bad, considering the show's creators were originally unsure if "Nerd Word" would even get off the ground.

"We were a little over our heads with this," admitted Josh Thompson, who pulls triple duty as host, co-creator, and gaming expert for "Nerd Word." According to Thompson and Morgan, the idea of creating a geek-culture show sprang up from a combination of their natural penchant for nerdiness and their experiences working as DJs for RAGE last semester.

Working from the idea of targeting the overlapping demographics of alt-rock listeners and geek-culture fans, Morgan and Thompson came up with the idea of a show that would combine a strong online presence on sites like Twitter and Facebook with a fast-paced, high energy on-air presence, along with a big dose of everything "geek".

The two DJs then approached Groeller, who is also RAGE 103.7's Specialty Programs Director. Groeller not only liked the project, he joined the project as the "Nerd Word" comic book and superhero expert. From there, "Nerd Word" faced its two biggest obstacles: Station Manager Rachel Burnett and Faculty Advisor Dr. Bruce Mims.
