The Heather MacDonald Greene Multimedia Center is the newest space in Kent Library, and opened last fall.

Doug Greene donated all the money needed for the project two years ago when he surprised his wife with the media center as a birthday gift, in honor of the point in her life when she was a documentary filmmaker.

"It's a good place to work in groups. The production rooms are large enough to accommodate for eight people, there is a big screen on the wall compared to a small computer screen, and it's easier because you can have your own space," said Coordinator Emily Scharf.

Conveniently located on the 3rd floor level of Kent, the multimedia center currently has two computers that have been uploaded with numerous softwares. Full Microsoft Office 2007 Suite, Full Adobe CS4 Design Suite, Adobe CS3, Windows Movie Maker, and Skype are just a few of the softwares available. As of right now there are only two computers, but they are in the process of creating a new room for an Apple Macintosh computer.

" A lot of the students come in, more than anything else in the past at least. There is a lot of talk about the new CS4 suite and the upcoming Mac. When we added Skype, there was a lot of use with the international students, because it's a good way for them to see their families," said Student Assistant Emily Bowers, age 22.

The two computers are also fully equipped with a wireless keyboard and mouse, Wacom Bamboo tablet, Logitech web camera, High Definition Sony Handycam Camcorder, Widescreen LCD TV mounted on the wall, and VHS/DVD recorder, thus making it capable for students to have access to video and film editing, photo editing, sound editing, VHS to DVD conversion, graphic projects, and much more.

"We've used flyers, brochures, and last year I even worked with the Marketing and Business classes as their client. They used the media center as a project and I got a lot of new ideas on how to promote the media center. We are more popular as time goes on, but being new it's hard sometimes to let people know we are here," said Scharf.

By calling, stopping by, or clicking the reservations link on our web site, students can make reservations for the production rooms. To learn more go to library.semo.edu/info/mmc
