Southeast's men's cross-country team took third and the women's cross-country team took fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Saturday Oct. 31. The Redhawk runners had to slosh their way through very wet and muddy conditions on the course in Nashville, Tennessee, but that didn't stop three Southeast runners from taking home All-OVC honors.

The leader of the men's team was Jason Lumpkin. Lumpkin placed eighth overall, finishing the 8K course in 26:44.40, which earned him a Second Team All-OVC selection. Freshman Tyler Mullen was the next Redhawk to cross the finish line; he placed 17th with a time of 27:23.27. Chris Loseman (22nd), Cody Martin (23rd) and Brandon Funderburk (32nd) rounded out Southeast's top five runners.

Lumpkin said that the team really would have liked to beat Eastern Illinois University, but that he could not be disappointed with the great effort his teammates put forward. Lumpkin went on to say that Mullen and Martin were really the stars of the race. "Those two [Mullen and Martin] really stepped up; they are the ones that got us third place."

The women's team was led by Monica Noble, who placed ninth overall with a time of 20:28.72 for the 5K course. Close behind Noble was her teammate Szandra Pal, who ran a time of 20:33.56 and placed 12th. Both Noble and Pal were named Second Team All-OVC. Southeast's women's top five runners was rounded out by Linnea Woldtvedt (26th), Kasey Owens (28th), and Liz Speicher (29th).

Noble said that she thought the team tried hard, but if they come back strong and healthy next season, there is no reason why they can't improve their place in the conference race.

Eastern Kentucky University won the men's and women's championships for the fourth year in a row, and it had the OVC men's Athlete of the Year, women's Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year all named from its team.

The Redhawks will not be sending a full men's or women's team to the upcoming Midwest Regional meet in Springfield, MO ...
