For the last philanthropy event of the year, Delta Chi did a great job on picking the perfect day for their kickball tournament, Delta Chi Esta. April 25 proved to be a great day, with sunshine and warmth, unlike the cold weather Southeast had been seeing lately.

The seeding event for the tournament took place on the Friday previous to the event. Girls from each participating sorority had to make up a dance and perform it for the guys. The men of Delta Chi then judged them and placed the teams accordingly. The next day, the teams were seeded as follows: Alpha Chi Omega was seeded first and played Alpha Delta Pi, who came in second. Gamma Phi Beta, seeded third, played Delta Delta Delta, who came in last.

At the end of day, ADPi rose on top with the first place trophy, with Gamma Phi coming in second. Tri-Delta beat Alpha Chi to get the 3rd place trophy.

Despite only having four teams, Delta Chi raised around $1,000 to go toward their charity of choice, the V Foundation.

The V Foundation was founded by ESPN in honor of Jim Valvano, a North Carolina State coach and broadcaster, as an organization to save lives by researching a cure for cancer. Valvano died in 1993 from cancer, which is when the V Foundation was founded. This charity also raises awareness about how threatening cancer is. The motto of the V Foundation is "Don't give up. Don't ever give up."

Since Delta Chi joined the Southeast campus, they have helped out many charities. Over 223,000 hours have been put forth in community service, and more than $1 million has been raised since 1998. "Partnering with the V Foundation will allow Delta Chi to focus those efforts towards benefiting a single cause and organization," said Philanthropy Chair Cory Nadler.

One thing that might strike people as odd is the name of the kickball tournament, Delta Chi Esta. When put in that context, esta has no real meaning. When asked, Nadler replied, "it sounded cool…it sounds like 'fiesta.'" It was definitely a fiesta for the winners of the kickball tournament and for Delta Chi due to the money they raised.
