The first event in the series was last Thursday night in Towers lounge. It featured Heidi Schwartz, a singer, writer and painter from Nashville, Tenn. The lounge was full most of the night as people wandered in, attracted by the smell of fresh coffee and Schwartz's voice.
Schwartz was impressed by "Music and Mocha" and SAC's willingness to put on such an event.
"It's a really cool thing," she said. "It's cool that they're supporting the artistic community and bringing in artists from the independent world that people otherwise wouldn't hear."
Several people in the audience were impressed with Schwartz and "Music and Mocha."
"The coffee was great, but the music was definitely better," exclaimed Buddy Iahn. "I hope ones in the future are just as good."
Others, however, just seemed to come for the music and the fun.
"It's great to have people come together with something like this," said Mike Dunnigan. "I'm not a real big coffee fan, but I guess it helps people come down."
Amy Grass, SAC student involvement assistant, said that the three other acts planned for "Music and Mocha" include John Rush, a musician who bills himself as a "human jukebox," on March 31, a two-man band called Easily Amused on April 14, and Shevy Smith on May 5.
