'Capitalism: A Love Story' is a wake-up call

Love him or hate him, Michael Moore has made another film. "Capitalism: A Love Story" hit theaters nationwide on Oct. 2, and opened in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 16. For Moore, the film is a bit of a departure from his last two movies in which he channeled all of his energy into bashing the Republican Party and George W.

'Wild Things' an intricate recounting of childhood

I always hate saying "you'll either hate it or love it"-it's such a cliché and rundown phrase-but truth be told, "Where the Wild Things Are" will divide audiences quicker than you'd probably believe. This dark children's tale tells the story of Max (Max Records), a little boy who wants attention from all the people who won't give it to him-his sister and his mother (Catherine Keener).

'The Stepfather' steps back from climactic opportunities

The Stepfather is a remake of the 1987 thriller starring Terry O'Quinn of "Lost." The movie is based on the real story of a mass murderer who inhabited New England in the 1970s and 80s. John List was a man who murdered his family then fled, changed his identity, and married into a new family.

'Stardust' a wonderful novel, leaves readers wanting more

Written by Neil Gaiman, the author of "Coraline, "Stardust" is one of those rare, perfect books that readers will want to start again as soon as they have reached the end. The story begins in the village of Wall. It is named that because of the huge stone wall that runs along the edge of the town.

'Law-Abiding Citizen' a violent, masterful example of justice gone wrong

"Law Abiding Citizen" is a wonderful mix of characters - well, not so much, but the entire movie still manages to be intriguing and fascinating, and manages to include a message in the midst of death. There are only two main characters, Jamie Foxx as Nick Rice, the ambitious, success-driven young lawyer, and Gerard Butler as as the broken, grieving father to whom justice was not given when justice was due.
