During the past offseason, the Lions ice hockey team made a huge change at the coaching position.

They named former Blues player Rick Zombo as the new head coach of the program. Derek Schaub stepped down as coach to become the head coach of the men's lacrosse team on June 7.

When the NCAA passed a new bylaw last April that prevented schools from providing recruits with media guides, coach Josh Pastner and his staff already had a backup plan.

In the midst of last season, staff members threw around the idea of a blog or website devoted solely to the men's basketball program. By the end of the season, they decided to run with it. Matt Dunn, an operations assistant, was pegged as webmaster.

In the Panthers' week of preparation for Iowa, one idea was set in stone: the Panthers might not beat the Hawkeyes, but they will know what kind of team they have after the game. The Eastern football team traveled to Iowa City to play the Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday, and lost 37-7, but the coaches liked what they saw.

IOWA CITY - Hayden Fry coached the Iowa Hawkeyes for two decades and contributed many wins, and a pink locker room.

Fry, who was a psychology major when he attended Baylor in the late 1940s, began his time as the Iowa head football coach by painting the visitor's locker room pink.

UC expansion may benefit Athletics

Lack of sufficient space for athletics has been a problem at Webster University as programs have grown. Webster is looking to expand the University Center (UC) and improve athletic facilities in the future. "I would say that when the University Center opened in 1992, it probably was already insufficient for the numbers they had enrolled in athletics," Athletics Director Tom Hart said.

Department redefined walk-on athletes under Athletic Director Tom Hart. Despite an open policy regarding walk-ons, the coaches recruit approximately 90 percent of Webster athletes. "Typically you'd define a walk-on as somebody who joins the team with no athletic scholarships," Hart said.

One year and one day ago Saturday, the Northern Iowa Panthers (UNI), a football program Eastern is 1-10 against, more than humbled the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa, then ranked No. 7 in the nation, escaped a scare in the season opener against UNI, 17-16 Sept. 5. The result could have been different if it were not for special teams.
