Sunday marked the 82nd Academy Awards. The ceremony opened with Neil Patrick Harris's rousing musical number. Then co-hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin took the stage. Oscar host alum Martin and new-timer Baldwin were successful in bringing the laughs.

One major change in this year's show was the expansion of the Best Picture category from five shows to ten.

The devastating earthquakes to hit Haiti and Chile in recent memory have been a wakeup call for the rest of the world. Illinois also experienced an earthquake in early February that was felt in the northern part of the state. It is a cause for concern for Illinoisans, because the active New Madrid fault is located on the border of Southwest Illinois near the town of Cairo.

Remakes and sequels are two staples of the film industry. They are usually big moneymakers, and sometimes are better than the original. Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" is both a remake and a sequel, if you can believe it. It probably made a lot of money as well, because all the shows were sold out except for one.
